Sleng Teng Aka Ting and Ting Overview
In 1991, a new dub release called "Sleng Teng Aka Ting and Ting Riddim" made waves in reggae music. This record came out of Jamaica, carrying the sound and spirit of the early '90s dancehall scene. The riddim gave singers and deejays a strong roots base to build their songs on. Anthony Red Rose brought his style to the track "Keeping A Fat Ting." He is well known for his hit "Tempo," which helped define digital dancehall in the mid-1980s. Brian & Tony Gold performed "Sound Ting." This duo is famous for their smooth harmonies and had chart success with songs like "Compliments of Your Kiss," a collaboration with Red Dragon that reached the UK Top 40 in 1994. Chevelle Franklyn delivered "Cheat Ting." She later became famous for her work in gospel music and her hit "Dancehall Queen" with Beenie Man. Cocoa Tea sang "Oil Ting." Cocoa Tea is celebrated for songs like "Rikers Island" and for his work with artists such as Shabba Ranks. Cutty Ranks performed "Idle Talk Ting." He is widely known for his powerful deejay style and his classic track "The Stopper." The riddim also featured Flourgon with "Bow Ting," Home T with "Love Ting," Hopeton Lindo with "Gun Ting," Papa San with "Pretend Ting," and Peter Mann with "Procrastinate Ting." Each artist added their unique voice to the project. The release was produced by TWO FRIENDS RECORDS, a label known for supporting reggae and dancehall talent since the 1980s.
