Sleepless Riddim – Hilltop Records

Hilltop Records kept Sleepless Riddim moving in a tight six-track circle, and the 2021 set has that late-night bashment feel its title promises: cut from the same dark, forward-driving rhythm, but with enough personality in the vocals to keep it from sitting in one place too long. Bully Blingz opens with “One Touch, ” Ja Outlaw follows on “Remember When, ” and Lavisch rides the pocket on “More Money Pon More, ” while Natural Flamez and Wasp push the energy into grittier territory near the end. Munga Honorable’s “Nuff Night” is the tune that lands hardest, the one that gives the riddim its sharpest edge and the clearest pull.
