Genie Riddim (2021) – Livewyah Records

Back in 2021, when dancehall was crowded with tough one-drop-style loops and quick-hit singles aimed at the dance, Livewyah Records cut Genie Riddim with a compact seven-song line-up that keeps the focus on the voice and the hook. Wilwa’s “Make A Wish” sets the tone, while Chriso’s “Commas” and Utmost’s “Thick Girls” give the riddim some of its sharper moments, carried by a lean, digital-heavy pulse that leaves plenty of room for each singer to work the pocket. Penny Don’s “Tease” and Shabako’s “Clean” push the set toward the more playful, street-facing side of the project, and the whole package runs with seven unique artists in all.
