SHOWDOWN RIDDIM produced by BOMBRUSH RECORDS 2001
Showdown Overview
Back in 2001, the Showdown Riddim came together in a small Kingston studio. The sound engineer wanted a dancehall beat that would shake the dance floor but still sound fresh and different. He experimented with hard-hitting drums and deep basslines, adding small touches to make the riddim stand out for club nights. The producer behind the project was BOMBRUSH RECORDS, a label known for pushing bold dancehall sounds. BOMBRUSH RECORDS had already made a name for itself with powerful releases in the early 2000s, helping to shape the bashment scene in Jamaica and beyond. Bounty Killer was one of the first artists to voice on the riddim, bringing his famous energy to the track "Which One." By this time, Bounty Killer was already a dancehall legend, known for hits like "Look" and for winning the MOBO Award for Best Reggae Act in 2002. His powerful delivery set the tone for the whole release. General B followed with "Pressure Dem," showing his skill for catchy hooks and sharp lyrics. General B had been part of the dancehall group Monster Shack Crew and was respected for his solo work as well. Merciless dropped "Its Me," bringing his unique voice and style. Merciless was well-known for his clash performances and had scored big hits like "Mavis." Monster Shack, the crew, added "Ganja Baby," giving the riddim a playful, herbal anthem. T.o.k. closed out the release with "Player Hater." T.o.k.
