Shot Caller Riddim – Wundah Production

Wundah’s 2012 Shot Caller Riddim comes out of that early-10s UK dancehall pocket where the arrangements stay lean but the hooks do the heavy lifting, with a steady tempo and little keyboard flashes that keep the groove moving. Gappy Ranks is the anchor here, cutting both “Clean Dem Up” and “Pretty Girl” with the kind of clipped, confident delivery that sits neatly against the warmer bounce of Cyras’ “Back It Up” and Juvenile’s “Squeeze Up, ” which lands in both edit and raw versions. The whole thing feels tighter than a lot of its era, almost like a small crew testing how far a simple riddim can travel when the melodies are this direct, and that extra raw take on “Squeeze Up” gives it a little more bite.
