SERGING RIDDIM produced by DIMES PRODUCTION 1998
Serging Overview
DIMES PRODUCTION was the label behind the Serging Riddim, a dancehall project that brought a new sound to the scene in 1998. DIMES PRODUCTION was known for pushing boundaries in Jamaican music. They worked with both rising and established artists, always aiming for something fresh. The label’s influence grew in the late 1990s, when digital riddims started to take over dancehall. The Serging Riddim featured some big names. Don Yute came in strong with “House Key.” Don Yute was already making waves in dancehall around this time, known for his unique voice and hits like “Gal It Wouldn’t Easy.” Merciless, a crowd favorite, delivered “Stamp A Gal.” Merciless was famous for songs like “Mavis” and for winning the Sting clash in 2000, where he battled Beenie Man, Bounty Killer, and Ninja Man in one night—a rare achievement. Frisco Kid added his own style with “Long Fi The Sun.” Frisco Kid is well-known for tracks like “Rubbers” and “Gal Pon De Side.” Future Troubles brought energy with “Jog And Exercise.” L.U.S.T, the vocal group, gave the riddim a different flavor with “Favourite Guy.” L.U.S.T is known for their harmonies and hits like “Sweetness of Your Love.” DIMES PRODUCTION’s work on Serging Riddim gave selectors fresh fire for dancehall nights. The riddim’s mix of old and new sounds kept people moving and helped keep dancehall alive in 1998. Looking back, it’s clear this project was an important part of the dancehall story.
