Scriptum Riddim – Top Nail

In the early-2000s Kingston flow of tough digital reggae, Scriptum Riddim lands with a lean seven-song roll call and a cast that knows how to carry a one-drop groove without crowding it. Top Nail keeps the vibe direct and unflashy, leaving room for voices like General B, Hawkeye, Ricky General and Tony Curtis to do the heavy lifting, while Captain Barkey and Angel Doola’s “Deh Yah” adds a little extra movement in the middle of the set. Compared with Top Nail’s earlier dancehall work, this one feels a shade more roots-leaning and measured, less ragged-edge bashment than some of the label’s late-’90s material.
