Scallawah Riddim – Thc Muzik

THC Muzik keeps Scallawah moving in a late-2005 roots-reggae mode rather than chasing the harder dancehall pressure the era was known for, and that gives the riddim a looser, more meditative feel. The one track that kept surfacing in the talk around it was Turbulence’s “Notorious, ” which landed as the clear standout on the rhythm and helped push the release beyond a simple compilation. You also get a strong run of voices in Daddygon’s “Callin, ” Kulcha Knox’s “Dis Mornin, ” and Ray Darwin’s “Take You Home, ” each one sitting neatly inside the same mellow framework without flattening the mood. The sequence feels planned to ease the listener through the set, with the tougher titles stacked against the more reflective cuts so the riddim keeps its shape from opening to close.
