Rebel Riddim (2005) – Tripple Platinum Records

Tripple Platinum Records wasn’t really known for flooding the market with a lot of reggae one-riddim sets, so Rebel Riddim has a lean, purpose-built feel rather than the overstuffed compilations that were common in 2005. The cut runs through a neat mix of voices, with Sanchez’s “Rude Boy” and Richie Stephens’ “Cant Go On” giving the set its strongest melodic pull, while Maximus Dan and Mysterious add a tougher edge on “Next One. ” It’s a 10-track release with 10 different artists, and that tight, one-song-per-voice structure gives the riddim a proper showcase instead of letting any one act dominate. You also get Willie Justice’s “Rastafari” and the instrumental version at the close, which lets the producer leave the groove exposed and finish the sequence on the bare rhythm itself.
