Same Yute Riddim – Chimney Records

Chimney’s Same Yute Riddim comes off as a clipped, militant dancehall cut with enough room for the vocalists to jab and answer over the top of it, more raw street energy than polished crossover gloss. The release is sequenced like a compact seven-piece set, with the riddim version sitting in the middle and three of the songs marked as Dj Rambo954 remixes, which gives the project a slightly reworked, selector-friendly feel rather than a straight one-drop compilation. Busy Signal’s “Question” is the biggest name in the mix, while Kiprich’s “Stamina” and Stein’s “Nuh War Ova Gal” keep the tone firmly in clash territory. Artekal’s “Gaza Death” and T Nez’s title cut round out the 2010 Chimney Records release, with production credited to Jordan McClure and David Hayle.
