Royal Step Riddim Megamix – Maximum Sound

Maximum Sound’s Royal Step Riddim arrived in 2016 as a modern roots and steppers set with a heavy, marching pulse and a clean dubwise finish. Frenchie teamed up with Alborosie to produce and arrange it, and the pairing gives the project real weight: tough drum-and-bass pressure, militant skank, and enough space for melodies and horns to breathe. The release landed on November 25, 2016, with a nine-track sequence that includes a dub cut mixed by Rohan Dwyer.

The lineup reads like a snapshot of roots-reggae’s international circuit at the time. Morgan Heritage opens with “Conscious Revolution, ” bringing their polished harmony style and uplift message. Alborosie voices “Tearful Days, ” which fits his own reputation for gravelly, streetwise roots with a rebel edge. Samory I’s “Ride On” adds a younger, harder-edged conscious voice, while Randy Valentine and Exco Levi join forces on “Protected, ” a combination that gives the riddim a sharper chant-and-response feel.

Ras Demo’s “Step It Like A Soldier” keeps the militant tone moving, Gappy Ranks’ “Taliban” sharpens the social commentary, and Anthony B’s “Forward To Africa” brings veteran fire and African consciousness. Addis Pablo’s “Royal Melodica” is the project’s most instrumental-minded moment, giving the riddim a live, dub-leaning character before Rohan Dwyer closes with “Royal Step Dub. ” It’s a strong one-riddim selection that sits squarely in Maximum Sound’s run of roots-forward, sound system-ready releases.
