ROACH RIDDIM produced by GHETTO VIBES / JOHNNY WONDER & KING JAMMYS 1995
Roach Overview
GHETTO VIBES / JOHNNY WONDER and KING JAMMYS brought a true party feeling to dancehall with the Roach Riddim in 1995. These producers were already well known: King Jammy is famous for his digital innovations in reggae, especially the Sleng Teng riddim, which changed the sound of dancehall forever. Johnny Wonder, as a producer and promoter, helped many artists reach wider audiences. On the Roach Riddim, some of dancehall’s top names delivered memorable tracks. Bounty Killer, who had already made waves with hits like “Poor People Fed Up,” brought his powerful voice to “Wedding Done Arrange.” Daddy Ring gave his unique style to “Row Your Boat,” while Frisco Kid, known for his energetic delivery, stood out with “Gal Ah Hustle.” Harry Toddler & Elephant Man, both respected for their stage energy, teamed up for “Fight War.” Jigsy King, who had a major hit with “Gi Mi Di Weed,” added “Mr Bate” to the riddim. Other artists also made their mark: Pennie Irie with “It's All About” and Turbo Belly with “Judgement Pon Di Earth.” The sound engineer helped shape a crisp, heavy mix that kept the dancefloor moving. Even today, when people hear the Roach Riddim, it brings back memories of bashment parties in 1995. The riddim’s lively beats and big names made it a classic moment in dancehall history.
