Repentance Riddim – Tuff Nut

By the time Tuff Nut put out Repentance Riddim in April 2016, the studio was already stacking up a run of tidy roots-and-reggae juggling projects, and this one keeps that catalogue moving with a small, focused set of cuts. The rhythm has that sober, reflective feel the title promises: lean drums, a steady low end and enough open space for the singers to lean into warning and testimony rather than flash. J Dot Manswell’s Jah Is Coming Soon sets the tone with its preacherly urgency, Marley Palmer’s Got No Love adds a more bruised, wary mood, and Patriotic’s Judgement Time pushes the moral pressure a little further. The closing Repentance Riddim Version ties it together neatly, leaving the instrumental to carry the project’s weight on its own.
