Kode Red Crew’s Red October Riddim sits in that early-2000s reggae-riddim pocket where the pull comes from the voicing as much as the cut itself: 11 tracks, 11 artists, and a tidy little roll call that runs from 1 And A Half’s “From Ah Distance” through Franko D, Germs, Mr Slick, Ort, Premium, Smooth E and Stingdogg. The production has a dry, no-frills backbone, with the singers and deejays leaning into rough-edged patter, sharp one-liners and a slightly streetwise tone rather than big melodic flourishes. “I’m Strapped” and “Come Cry” keep the energy on the harder side, while “D Vincy Gyul Dem” and “Model” give the set some lighter swagger. The inclusion of both an intro and an instrumental at the end points to a producer-led project that was meant to travel as a full sound, not just a stack of singles.
