RAW TRUTH (THE ONE RIDDIM SHOWCASE) – ABABA JONHEY RECORDS 2007
Raw Truth (The One Overview
When the dub version of Raw Truth (The One Riddim) dropped in 2007, reggae fans welcomed it with open arms. The riddim’s classic feel brought back memories of reggae’s golden years, but its fresh sound also fit right into modern playlists. Listeners praised the laidback, percussion-heavy grooves and the way each artist added their own flavor. Anju Kumbz’s “Where Jah Lead” stood out for its heartfelt delivery, while Asante Amen’s “Keep Holding On” inspired many with its message of strength. Big Youth and Joseph Hill, known for his work as the lead singer of Culture and their 1977 hit album “Two Sevens Clash,” teamed up for “His Majesty’s Teachings,” blending deep roots with spiritual lyrics. Billy Mystic’s “It Ago Red” and Culture’s “Raw Truth” added more layers, giving the riddim both edge and unity. The project also featured acts like Daddy Rings with “Want To Be,” Eldie Anthony & Ice Block’s “Rasta Troding,” Elijah Prophet’s “One And All,” and Jah Meek’s “Love H.I.M.” The Janhoy Allstars closed things out with the “Extended Dub Mix,” bringing the whole experience together. The album was shaped in the studio with careful hands, released on the One Riddim label. This collection kept the roots of reggae alive while sounding right at home in 2007’s reggae scene.
