Tight and terse, the Ransom Riddim keeps its focus on straight-up 2003 dancehall energy, packing just five cuts and no dead weight. Big Crew’s “Roll Call” kicks things off with a hard-edged crew chant, while Giselle D Wassi One’s “Diva Power” and Roger George’s “Peeps” lean into the sharper, more streetwise side of the era. Ricochet Camp bring some bounce with “Winin’ Magician, ” but it’s Sister Ron’s “Hottest Ting” that leaves the strongest mark, riding the rhythm with the kind of swagger that was made for small-system pressure. The whole selection feels lean and deliberate, a compact slice of early-2000s dancehall where each voicing has to land quickly and does.
