Punaunie Riddim – Waterhouse

Punaunie Riddim carries that slick late-’80s Waterhouse pulse, tight and rough at the edges, with the kind of bawdy dancehall energy that kept sound systems moving in Kingston in 1988. The set tilts hard into the era’s cheeky double-entendre style: Ashman, John Wayne, Joe Manix, Lady Junie and Pan Bird all circle the same suggestive theme from different angles, while Don Angilo pairing with Anthony Red Rose adds a sharper patter and a little extra push. It’s a compact 10-track run, and the Waterhouse production keeps the mood consistent without smothering the personalities riding it. The clearest hook comes from Lady Junie’s “Ne Get Punaunie, ” which lands with the kind of direct, sly delivery that made her Waterhouse cuts memorable, but John Wayne’s “Want You Body” is right there with it, carrying the riddim’s bounce cleanly into the finish.
