Pink Wall Riddim – Truckback Records

Truckback Records’ Pink Wall Riddim landed in 2013 with the kind of bashment energy that was moving dancehall at the time: quick-footed, bass-heavy, and built for sound system play. Adrian Locke is credited with the production, and the release sat on Truckback’s catalogue as a straight-up juggling package rather than a lone song cycle. The set ran through 11 cuts and gave the riddim a proper dance-floor identity, with Ding Dong’s “Pink Wall” and the Lady Saw, Eve and New Kidz link-up on “Money Green” doing a lot of the heavy lifting.

Stylysh’s “Cree” appears in both raw and radio versions, which tells you the song had enough traction to be serviced two ways. Suku from Ward 21 brings “Broad Back, ” while Bling Dawg’s “Gal Clown, ” Round Head’s “Dance Floor, ” Chico’s “Yuh Find It, ” Empire Isis’s “Ignite, ” Flammable’s “What She Got” and Deh Reh’s “Sum Ting Deh Ya” fill out the juggling with different shades of slackness, party talk and streetwise bravado. The lineup mixes veteran voices with names that were still moving heavily through the dancehall circuit, and that blend gives the riddim its pull.

The sound is all bounce and forward motion, the kind of bashment rhythm that leaves space for melody but keeps the kick and snare doing the talking. Pink Wall works best when it sounds biggest and rowdiest, and the standout cuts are the ones that sound like they were made for a packed session, not a quiet listen.
