PHYLUM RIDDIM produced by ROLLING DICE RECORDS
Phylum Overview
In 2019, dancehall fans found new energy in the Phylum Riddim, produced by ROLLING DICE RECORDS. This yard session tape became a favorite at late-night parties across Jamaica. Compared to other yard session tapes from the same time, Phylum Riddim stood out for its strong percussion and the way each artist added something unique. Well Maxx’s “Bad Gyal” was a big reason for the tape’s popularity. Well Maxx is known for his catchy hooks and sharp delivery, and “Bad Gyal” was quickly picked up by selectors at local dances. Rane Son’s “Rapid Fire” brought a different flow, showing his skill with fast lyrics. Dre Zee made his mark with “4 Shot A JB,” a track that matched the riddim’s energy perfectly. Laden, who gained attention with his hit “Time to Shine” in 2008, contributed “Sed Way.” This song showed Laden’s ability to stay relevant and connect with new fans. Swick Don’s “Head Shot” added another layer of excitement, making the set even more memorable. The sound engineer played a key role, making sure every vocal and drum hit sounded clear and powerful. ROLLING DICE RECORDS, known for their creative approach to riddim building, helped bring all these elements together. The label has released several popular dancehall projects and has built a reputation for fresh, energetic productions. Looking back, Phylum Riddim helped keep dancehall moving forward in 2019.
