Passionate Riddim – Zj Heno

Passionate Riddim leans into the softer side of 2013 reggae, with a warm, lovers-rock glow that leaves room for both tender crooners and a few more rootsy touches. ZJ Heno pulled together a tidy 13-track set that moves from DaVille’s smooth “My Tender Love” and Tiana’s “Think I Love You” to the more reflective turns from Kelissa, Sophia Squire, and Timeka Marshall, with Chronixx’s “Champion” giving the project a sharper edge later in the cycle. The lineup mixes familiar voices with then-rising names, which gives the riddim a nice snapshot feel without losing its romantic center. Coming out in May 2013, it landed right in that period when contemporary reggae was leaning hard into polished, radio-friendly one-drop productions with enough melodic lift to carry a whole stack of love songs.
