Passion Riddim – Nap Musiq

NAP Musiq’s Passion Riddim came out of the producer’s early run in the mid-2000s, and you can hear the label reaching for a proper foundation here: a straight reggae swing with enough pressure under it to keep the tougher voices from Capleton and Bascom X sounding sharp, while Luciano, Richie Spice and Chuck Fender lean the other way into uplift and roots conscience. It’s a busy lineup, but the cut that really anchors the set is Richie Spice’s “Babylon System, ” which locks into the riddim with the kind of steady fire that made this project travel beyond a local shuffle. Anthony Cruz’s “No Better Than This” and Luciano’s “Rooted And Grounded” add a smoother edge, and that contrast is what keeps the compilation moving.
