Orlando Mahgix Riddim – Ghetto Network

Ghetto Network keeps Orlando Mahgix moving with a tight, straight-ahead dancehall pulse that leaves room for the voices to do the talking. Buju Banton’s “Rotate” gives the set its biggest name pull, while Delly Ranx’s “Kitchen” and Kiprich’s “Tell Lie” lean into the sharper, streetwise edge that runs through the whole thing. There’s a nice bit of variety too: Froggy Madd Squad and Caam Phattaz cut “Little” twice, once as a radio version, and Silva Cat’s “Low On Chattings” brings a dry, chatty swagger before Simone Stylez closes things out with “Run Weh Di Boy. ” The instrumental sits at the end like a final reminder that this 2011 set was built for soundsystem play as much as for the singers riding it.
