Original Carbon Riddim – Shams | B-Rich

Original Carbon Riddim arrived in early 2018 under Shams The Producer and B-Rich Records, a five-cut dancehall juggling that places veteran names and sharper contemporary voices over one clean, hard-driving instrumental. Shams, born Richard Browne, had already built a long résumé as a producer, engineer, bassist and former manager in the reggae and dancehall world before stepping out front with this project.

The riddim runs lean and steady at around the 100 BPM mark, with a clipped, modern feel that leaves room for the vocals to carry the weight. It has that polished dancehall bounce, but it never gets flashy for the sake of it. Instead, the production stays direct and functional, which suits a set that moves from warning to bragging to outright party talk.

Bugle’s Life Lesson gives the release some of its most grounded writing, with his reflective tone cutting through the riddim’s shine. Konshens comes with the sharp, radio-ready pressure on Any Man, while Bunji Garlin’s Gunman brings a harder edge and a Trinidadian attack that widens the project beyond straight Jamaican dancehall. T. O. K. add their familiar group energy on Get Fuc, and One Third closes things out with Let’s Get Wasted, bringing a lighter, more social-catch mood to the set.

What makes Original Carbon Riddim work is the balance. It has enough personality to move as a project, but it also leaves each voice room to land its own angle. That mix of established names and distinct styles gives the riddim a proper juggling feel, the kind built for repeated plays rather than a quick spin.
