OOH BABY RIDDIM produced by NECESSARY MAYHEM
Ooh Baby Overview
In 2011, the reggae scene saw the arrival of the Ooh Baby Riddim, a roots instrumental that quickly made its mark. The journey began in the London studio of producer NECESSARY MAYHEM, known for his sharp ear and creative touch in modern UK reggae. NECESSARY MAYHEM, the founder of the Necessary Mayhem label, had already built a reputation for fresh riddims and collaborations with top artists. His productions often blended classic roots with a new energy, making them favorites for selectors and fans alike. Ooh Baby Riddim brought together a select group of artists, each adding their own style to the project. SHOLA AMA, a British singer famous for her 1997 hit “You Might Need Somebody,” delivered “PUPPY LOVE,” bringing soulful vocals to the roots beat. She also teamed up with CHRISTOPHER ELLIS for a remix of “PUPPY LOVE,” giving the song a new dimension with Ellis’s smooth voice. MAXI PRIEST, a major name in reggae known for his international chart-topper “Close to You,” contributed “EASY NOW.” His relaxed delivery fit perfectly with the riddim’s warm, rootsy sound. Other artists added their voices to the project. LEA ANNA sang “GAVE MY LOVE AWAY,” MASSICKER offered “LOVE LIKE THIS,” and MACHACO brought a lively vibe with “ROCK TO THE BEAT.” Each track stood out, but all kept the spirit of roots reggae alive. From studio creation to release, Ooh Baby Riddim added a strong chapter to reggae’s story in 2011, and its sound still feels fresh today.
