Old Mattrass Riddim – Various Artists 2009
Old Mattrass Overview
In the heart of 2009 Carnival, a new sound started to move through the streets. The Old Mattrass Riddim, created by the skilled groove builder, quickly became the pulse of the season. This riddim, with its lively soca energy and catchy melodies, was built to keep dancers moving from day to night. It was crafted to fit the spirit of parade and celebration, and it did not disappoint. The riddim’s journey began in the studio, where the groove builder shaped its upbeat rhythms and infectious hooks. Soon, some of dancehall and soca’s most energetic voices stepped up to bring it to life. Close Range delivered “Tek Buddy,” a track that quickly became a favorite at fetes. Pamputtae, known for her bold style, added her own flair with “Sidung Pon Di Buddy.” Mr G, whose hit “Swaggerific” had already made waves a year before, brought his signature energy to “Wining So.” Tony Matterhorn, famous for his chart-topping “Dutty Wine,” joined the project with “Fuck Talk,” adding his unmistakable voice to the mix. Flippa Mafia, who had already built a name for himself with “Dem Yah,” contributed two tracks: “Rub Off Pon Har 1” and “Tight Tight 1.” Each artist brought something unique, making the riddim feel fresh with every listen. As the Old Mattrass Riddim played through the 2009 Carnival parades, it became more than just a soundtrack. It was a celebration of rhythm and creativity, a release that people still remember whenever the festival season returns.
