Sounie Productions had a sharp ear for singer-driven reggae on O Nine Riddim, a 2008 set that leans into a clean, mid-tempo groove and leaves room for the voices to do the lifting. Beenie Man’s “Progress” brings a sharper edge to the lineup, while Morgan Heritage’s “3 Times A Woman” and Anthony B’s “The World” sit nicely beside the more roots-minded turns from Lutan Fyah and Gyptian. The rhythm has that steady, unhurried pulse that lets each cut land without fuss, and with 13 tracks in all it feels like a proper snapshot of where this style was sitting in the late-2000s. Even the little closing nod, “O Nine Riddim You Capture Me, ” feels like a cheeky tag left on the end.
