Nubian Riddim – New Sounds Production

Out of the 2021 crop of New Sounds Production’s dancehall work, Nubian Riddim lands as a tight five-cut set with a sharp, local-minded feel rather than a sprawling compilation. The line-up keeps the energy varied: Rushan Crossbreed’s “Rich Life” leans into ambition talk, Stunning Kid’s “Weh She Want” pushes the tension higher, and Subzero MP’s “Nubian Queen” brings the title theme into focus. VGonna’s “Life Weh Wi Live” and Zalla B’s “Kick Dem Kill Dem” keep the riddim in a more confrontational lane, which gives the project its edge. The whole thing arrived on July 2, 2021, and that date places it right in the middle of a busy run for the label, with Zalla B’s closing cut leaving the hardest stamp on the set.
