No Borders Riddim – Massive B Productions

“No Borders” is a 2007 Massive B set that sits right in that mid-2000s reggae pocket where the groove is sturdy, melodic and built for sound system play. Bobby Konders keeps the riddim moving with a clean, rubbery one-drop feel, and the vocal lineup gives it plenty of pull: Burro Banton comes in rough and commanding on “Badder Dan Dem, ” Junior Reid brings a steadier chant on “Stand Up, ” and Shaggy linking with Screechie and Red Fox on “Girls Like” adds a lighter, more playful twist. Collie Buddz and Million Stylez also fit the cut well, giving the project a couple of more contemporary voices without losing the rootsy center. It closes on the “Version” cut and Ziggi’s “Good Over Evil, ” which leaves the riddim itself hanging in the air rather than treating it like filler.
