Mexican Riddim (2002) – Jammys

Mexican Riddim came out in 2002 from the Jammys camp, with King Jammy and Baby G handling the production side and Jammy’s as the label. It sits right in that early-2000s run where Jammys was still pushing sharp, street-ready dancehall riddims with a heavyweight juggling format and a steady stream of voices from across the scene.

The cut has a clipped, percussive pulse and a tough digital bounce, the kind of instrumental that gives the bass room to throb while the top line stays lean and syncopated. It feels built for forward motion rather than gloss, and the various chants and talk-over styles ride that groove with bite. There’s a version cut in the package too, which helps underline how much the rhythm itself does the work.

The lineup is deep. Beenie Man’s “Ordinary” brings star power and a slippery, conversational delivery. Bounty Killer’s “Dem Bawling” gives the riddim its hardest street energy.
