Melodical Fyah Riddim – Union World Music

Union World Music’s Melodical Fyah Riddim landed in late 2012 as a conscious reggae juggling with a clean, melodic backbone and enough edge to keep the message cuts moving. The project came through Union World Music, an Austria-based imprint that had already been working the modern roots lane, and the release date is listed as November 30, 2012. The riddim also circulated as a megamix, which helped frame it as a full selection rather than a one-off compilation.

The strongest thing about the riddim is its balance: warm, rootsy instrumentation with a forward push that leaves room for both chant-style delivery and sharper, more militant vocals. Kabaka Pyramid’s “War, Crime and Violence” fits that mood perfectly, bringing his hybrid deejay approach and focused lyricism to a tune about social breakdown and resistance. Sizzla’s “OK” adds veteran fire, while Perfect Giddimani’s “G. I. F. ” and Ilements’ “Real Life” keep the project in a straight conscious register. Ginjah and Danny English’s “Come Love Me” widens the palette a little, and Duane Stephenson’s feature on Peurcy G’s “Far We A Come From” gives the set one of its more soulful moments. Deliman’s “Whole World Crying” and Ras Charmer’s “Give Praise” reinforce the spiritual and social angle that runs through the whole release.

Across its eleven cuts, Melodical Fyah Riddim feels less like a one-song showcase than a proper roots selection, with enough variety in voice and approach to keep the juggling lively while staying locked to one message.
