MATTRASS RIDDIM produced by MARKUS RECORDS 2012
Mattrass Overview
In 2012, a new bashment rhythm began its journey in the heart of Kingston’s dancehall scene. The Mattrass Riddim was born inside the studio of Markus Myrie, the driving force behind MARKUS RECORDS. Markus, son of reggae legend Buju Banton, had already made a name for himself as a producer, working with both established and upcoming artists. His label was known for blending classic dancehall energy with modern sounds, and Mattrass Riddim was no exception. The creation of the rhythm was a careful process. Markus Myrie built the beat around bold drum patterns and catchy melodies, giving it a strong, party-ready vibe. Once the instrumental was complete, he invited some of the scene’s most vibrant voices to record their tracks. Each artist brought their own style, turning the project into a showcase of dancehall talent. Aidonia delivered “Di Ride,” a song filled with witty lyrics and a commanding flow. Beenie Man’s “P_Ssy Anthem” quickly became a dancefloor staple, while Black Ryno’s “F_Ck Yuh Wah” added a rebellious edge. Flexxx & Ms Thing teamed up for “Bounce Pon Buddy,” bringing playful energy to the mix. General B’s “Bawl Out” delivered pure bashment fire, and Liquid’s “P_Ssy Mi Want” kept the party going. Tony Matterhorn, Ninja Kid, Versatile, and Markus Myrie himself all contributed their unique voices. From the first late-night parties, fans embraced the Mattrass Riddim. Its anthems echoed across sound systems, making it a permanent fixture in dancehall history.
