The yard session tape for Mash The Place Riddim first appeared in Jamaica in 1996. It quickly became a favorite with selectors who wanted a strong, energetic sound for their dancehall sets. Determine, on the other hand, was building his name as a sharp lyricist with a unique style. Mad Cobra also featured on the tape with Mad Cobra — Get Lost. Mad Cobra had scored international success a few years earlier with his hit single "Flex," which reached the top of the Billboard Rap chart in the United States.
