Steel Plate Riddim – Artistic

Steel Plate has that lean, tense mid-90s dancehall snap: a clipped drum pattern, metallic drive, and enough low-end pressure to keep the groove tight without ever sounding overloaded. On this Artistic cut, Action Fire’s “Up Front” and Stinga D’s “Miss Hot” are the only two voicings, so the riddim gets to breathe and each tune lands with a bit more force; Stinga D’s cut is the one that feels like it sticks quickest. The title also ties back to a 1995 Steel Plate used by Fat Eyes and Steely and Clevie, which puts this Artistic version in that classic ragga lineage rather than the glossy modern school. It’s a short, sharp reminder of how spare a dancehall set can be when the riddim is doing the heavy lifting.
