Produced by Errol Thompson with Joe Gibbs and Bunny Lee, Love Of The Common People comes from that early-1970s stretch when all three were shaping some of the sharpest reggae sides around. Nicky Thomas’s 1970 take is the key cut here, with Eric Donaldson, Dennis Alcapone’s Guns Don’t Argue, and The Winstons all working the same riddim in different ways. It has that familiar era feel: a warm, steady backing built for singers and deejays, with enough crossover pull that the title song kept turning up in later reggae collections and reissues.
