Look Riddim – Di Lab Records

Chozenn sets the tone on Look Riddim with “Anything You Want, ” and his cut points straight at the mood Di Lab Records was chasing here: sharp, mid-tempo dancehall with a sly, almost stalking pulse and enough low-end weight to keep it moving. Raheem Saviour gets two swings at it, first alongside IQ on the more militant “Call Fi War” and then on “Si Mi A Rise, ” while Free Speech’s “Me A Look” leans into the flirtatious side of the same riddim. It’s a lean five-track set from 2011, the kind of compact juggling that sat comfortably in dancehall’s early-2010s era, when producers were still using a single pattern to carry very different personalities across the board.
