Silent Night Xmas Riddim feels less like the usual year-end sugar rush and more like a dark little bashment holiday set, with the festive hook folded into straight dancehall pressure. The eight-song lineup keeps the focus on the groove, and tracks like Daddy Dom’s “A La Nou La, ” King Youth’s “Santa Murda, ” and Natty Bredda’s “Wait Santa” push the seasonal angle without turning it into novelty business. There’s a raw, strip-down feel to the whole project, which suits the title well: the “silent night” part comes through in the colder tone, while the MCs work the riddim with a bit of mischief and edge. Phantom J closes things with “Xmas Light, ” a neat final touch that leaves the project hanging on a slightly eerie holiday note.
