Medallion Riddim – Cymplex Music

Cymplex Music’s Medallion Riddim landed in July 2023 as a Zimdancehall juggling with a clear township pulse and a clean, modern sheen. Cymplex Music is the Harare-based production outfit led by Simbarashe “Cymplex” Moyo, a name already tied to a string of Zimdancehall projects, while this set sits in that same street-level catalogue with the kind of sound the label has made its calling card: bright, forward-driving, and built for singers who can cut through a busy instrumental.

The riddim runs seven tracks long and was issued on 5 July 2023. The lineup is anchored by Clatoh Fyah, Jah Signal, Macriss, Master H, Nicky Vybes and Soul Jah Love, with Cymplex handling the instrumental as the glue that binds the pack together. Jah Signal, a Harare dancehall artist from Kuwadzana, brings the polished singjay edge he’s known for, while Soul Jah Love’s inclusion gives the project a strong historical pull: he was one of Zimdancehall’s defining voices, famed for songs that captured struggle, defiance and street feeling with unusual force.

What gives Medallion its shape is the contrast between the voices. The vocal cuts ride the riddim with different energies, from the tighter, more percussive chants to the smoother, melodic turns.
