LIKE MOUNTAIN RIDDIM produced by FIRE HOUSE CREW 1997
Like Mountain Overview
Roots reggae has always been shaped by musicians who put meaning and feeling into their songs. In 1997, this spirit was strong, and the roots anthology carried those vibes into the reggae scene. The producer behind this project was FIRE HOUSE CREW, a well-known group in Jamaican music. FIRE HOUSE CREW started in the late 1980s and became famous for working with top reggae artists and for their warm, classic sound. Their work helped many artists reach wider audiences. This anthology featured important voices in reggae. Anthony B, known for his powerful lyrics and energy, performed "Lava" on the project. Earlier in his career, Anthony B gained global attention with "Fire Pon Rome," a classic roots anthem. Anthony Redrose, a respected singer with a long history in dancehall and reggae, brought his song "Too Much." Capleton, another leading figure in roots and dancehall, delivered "Rising Up." Capleton’s album "More Fire" would later become a major success in the early 2000s. The anthology also included Jah Cure with "Chant." Jah Cure is known for his soulful voice and later hits like "Longing For." Lukie D added "Heavy Load" to the collection, showing his smooth, melodic style. Other tracks on the project included "You Should Know" by Singing Melody and "Like Mountain" by Sizzla. Each artist brought their own style, but together, they kept the roots tradition alive. This anthology remains closely tied to the reggae history of 1997, showing the lasting power of roots music.
