Lickshot A.K.A Rewind Overview
Bounty Killer, Burro Banton, Chronicle, Norris Man, Elephant Man, and Kmc all brought their energy to the dancehall release known as Lickshot A.K.A Rewind Riddim. Each artist added their own flavor to the riddim. Bounty Killer, known for his 1996 album "My Xperience," delivered the track "Indecent." Burro Banton, famous for his classic dancehall style and the hit "Boom Wah Dis," contributed "Politicians." Chronicle and Norris Man teamed up for "Highest Grade," while Elephant Man, who later became known worldwide for songs like "Pon De River, Pon De Bank," dropped "Ms Hook." Kmc, a soca star from Trinidad, added "Wheres My Girl" to the mix. The riddim was produced by MASSIVE B, a label founded by Bobby Konders in Brooklyn. MASSIVE B is well known for its influence on both reggae and dancehall, and for producing hits that cross into mainstream radio and clubs. This dancehall set was made for the bashment scene of 1999. DJs and fans remember nights when these songs filled the dance floors. The riddim itself, "Rewind Aka Lickshot Riddim," gave a strong base for each artist’s unique style. Songs like Lexxus’s "Stress" and O.K’s "If A War" added even more heat. The project stands as a snapshot of a lively time in dancehall history.
