Penacillen Riddim – Massive B Production

Penacillen hits with that early-2000s Massive B charge: sharp, rough-edged dancehall with a wicked little sparring ground for names like Bounty Killer, Elephant Man, Anthony B, and Burro Banton. The producers leave enough room for the voices to cut through, and Bounty’s “War Book” feels like the tune that really locks the riddim in, with Elephant Man’s “Big Head” right there snapping at its heels. Anthony B cools it down a touch on “Nee Life, ” which makes the whole set move with a bit more shape than a straight bashment barrage. There’s also the familiar Massive B habit of giving artists space to go at the same pattern from different angles, and that clean/explicit split on a couple cuts adds a small period detail, almost as an aside.
