Birchill Records’ Lemonade Riddim arrived in 2018 as a bright, fast-moving dancehall juggling with a glossy digital edge and a playful bounce that keeps the drums popping and the bassline light on its feet. Christopher Birch has long been one of Jamaica’s more dependable hands in the studio, known as a producer, keyboard player, and mixing engineer, and Birchill has a deep catalogue that stretches across years of reggae and dancehall work.

The set pulls in a strong cross-section of voices. Christopher Martin brings smooth, melodic control to Big Big Trouble, which sits nicely in his wheelhouse of singjay cuts with a polished hook. Shane O cuts through with the sharper, more aggressive energy of Cut Up Inside, while Mr. G’s Weed Woman and Wine pushes the party mood harder. Charly Black’s More Gal gives the riddim one of its more obvious crowd-pleasers, with his easy, sly delivery built for repetition. Ce’Cile’s Want It Back adds some edge and attitude, and Tifa’s Ja Party keeps the whole thing in a female-led dancehall pocket that feels celebratory rather than sugary.
