LECTURER RIDDIM aka HANDLE THE RIDE RIDDIM produced by DIGITAL-B 1997
Lecturer Overview
Roots reggae has always relied on skilled musicians to build strong rhythms. These craftspeople create the deep bass and steady drum patterns that form the base of the music. Their work gives singers and deejays a solid foundation to share messages of hope and struggle. In 1997, the influential producer DIGITAL-B brought together these roots sounds for a project known as the Lecturer Riddim. DIGITAL-B, founded by Bobby Digital, is a respected Jamaican label. The label is known for shaping the sound of reggae and dancehall in the 1990s and has produced hits for many top artists. On the Lecturer Riddim, several well-known voices shine. Admiral Tibett, famous for his conscious lyrics, delivers "Babylon Brutally," a song that speaks out against injustice. Anthony B, who gained global recognition with tracks like "Fire Pon Rome," brings his energy to "Stronger." Josey Wales, a veteran deejay, is featured with "Bowl Dem." He is known for his classic dancehall hits such as "Undercover Lover." Junior Tucker, once a child star with the song "Happy," appears here with "Big Chat." Lieutenant Stitchie, who won the 1997 Caribbean Music Award for Best Male DJ, performs "Promises." Each artist adds their own style, but all are united by the roots-driven sound of the riddim. This cultural recording kept reggae’s message alive in 1997, connecting the new generation with the foundation of the music. Through the Lecturer Riddim, DIGITAL-B and these artists honored the roots while reaching new audiences.
