Kuminar Riddim – Kwashawna Records

Kuminar Riddim keeps its footing in the soca-dancehall crossover lane, but the guest list pushes it toward straight-up bashment energy. Kwashawna Records put it out in 2015, and the lineup runs from Nerro’s “Back It Up Again” and Gaza Indu’s “Beg Like Gyal” to cuts from Tussan, John D, and Gage, with both clean and raw versions for the more outspoken tunes. The rhythm seems aimed at party movement first, with enough sharp-edged deejay business to keep it from feeling too glossy. Vybz Kartel’s “In My Life” is the biggest pull here, and Shawn Storm’s title track, “Kuminar, ” gives the riddim its clearest identity, but Sikka Rymes’ “Move Gyal Whine” is the one that really locks in the waistline-ready mood.
