Puppet String Riddim – Adovkit Productions

A little Trinidad carnival energy is already baked into Puppet String Riddim, and AdvoKit Productions keeps it tight with just four tracks: Prophet Benjamin’s “So What, ” Sekon Sta’s “Bruk Down, ” Santana D Puppet’s “Bounce On It, ” and the label’s own instrumental. The cut that really catches the ear is Sekon Sta’s “Bruk Down, ” with Benjamin and Santana D Puppet both leaning into that fast, cheeky soca push over a brisk, percussive groove that feels made for road time rather than polite listening. AdvoKit put the project out on February 10, 2015, and the title has a playful backstory too, having been crafted with Trinidadian puppet Santana in mind, which gives the whole thing a local wink without slowing the pace. It runs four songs, all in and out quickly, with the instrumental closing out the set.
