Rough-cut energy. Krunky One Riddim comes out of 2012 with a dusty, rootsy reggae pulse that gives the whole set a street-level edge rather than any polished studio gloss, and Ludovic Louis-Marie keeps it moving through a big cast without letting the riddim lose its snap. Cali P’s “We Got To Respect” and Daddy Mory’s “Babylon Have A Plan” sit near the front of the pack, while Tiwony and Straïka push the project into sharper French-Caribbean territory. It’s a longer juggling than many one-riddim sets from the period, with 20 tracks including a version cut and DJ Kaprisson’s “Krunky Gigamix, ” which says plenty about how the producer was thinking in full-catalogue terms here: less one-off exercise, more a proper showcase for a riddim built to travel.
