Freedom Shine Riddim arrived from Truckback Records in 2012, the Kingston operation run by the Locke brothers, a crew who made a name for themselves with a studio and label setup literally housed in the back of a truck. By the time this juggling landed, Truckback was already known for sharp, radio-ready dancehall productions and for turning out memorable cuts like Erupt’s “Click Mi Finger” and I-Octane’s “Lose A Friend. ”
This one sits in a sweet spot between rootsy uplift and modern dancehall bounce. The groove is clean and forward-moving, with enough space for singjay phrasing and hooks to ride the pocket. It has that polished, open-ended riddim feel that invites different voices to pull it in different directions without losing the center. The title says a lot: this is music with a positive message, but it still has enough weight to work in a dance.
Busy Signal’s “Tell Dem Already” brings the sharpest edge, with his trademark command and momentum giving the riddim instant pull. Gyptian’s “In My Arms” softens things with melody and romance, while Tarrus Riley’s “Original Dancehall” gives the project some authority, rooting it in tradition while still sounding current. Turbulence’s “Respect Woman” is the conscious cut that deepens the message, and Warrior King’s “Time And Wisdom” adds another thoughtful layer, keeping the whole release grounded in uplift rather than flash.
