Kokane Riddim – Topaz Records

Topaz Records kept Kokane Riddim tight and compact in 2002, and that’s part of its charm: just four cuts, all of them leaning into the same clipped, mid-tempo dancehall swing. Ce’Cile’s “Love U Got” gives the rhythm its sweetest hook, while Chico comes in with the more direct “Big Up All Di Gal, ” riding the pattern with a tougher edge that suits his style. Chucki Starr’s “Love Di Style” sits neatly between the two, and the closing Famous ft. Million cut adds a slightly looser, crew-minded feel. The rhythm itself has that early-2000s Topaz snap, clean but not sterile, with enough bounce for sound system play. Small, concise, and very much of its moment, with Chico the name that lingers longest.
