Kalashnikov Riddim – Young Veterans Production

Young Veterans’ Kalashnikov Riddim hits with a tense, gunmetal shuffle and enough rough-edged bass to make the voice cuts feel like they’re coming in hot. Opal’s “It Clean” keeps the energy sharp and clipped, while Anthony B’s “No Fraid A None” is the one that really locks into the riddim’s militant pulse, all defiance and forward motion. Deva Bratt and Delly Ranx add more muscle to the juggling, giving the 2008 set a nice spread of voices without losing its bite. There’s a lean, street-level feel here that suits Young Veterans Production’s name well, and the whole thing plays like a snapshot of dancehall’s harder, moodier side in that period, with “Spray Fassy” tucked in like a final warning.
