KABUL RIDDIM produced by MAFIA & FLUXY 2013
Kabul Overview
In 2013, reggae music saw a return to its roots with the rocksteady flow, a style that first shaped reggae in the late 1960s. This classic sound was brought back to life by the well-known production duo MAFIA and FLUXY. Famous for their work with many reggae legends, MAFIA and FLUXY have a long history in the genre. They started in the UK and have produced and played on hundreds of reggae tracks, making their label and sound respected worldwide. The “Kabul Riddim” project showed their skill in blending deep basslines with uplifting reggae melodies. Tippa Irie, a British MC known for his hit “Hello Darling,” added his voice to the song “Jah Army.” His style is fast and clear, and he has been a strong part of the UK reggae scene since the 1980s. Macka B, another UK reggae artist, delivered the track “Jamaica.” Macka B is known for his conscious lyrics and won the British Reggae Industry Award for Best DJ in 2012. His music often speaks about culture and positivity. Lyricson, who is from Guinea, performed “Better Must Come.” He is known for his powerful voice and his work with reggae and dancehall artists across Europe and Africa. Troublesome’s “My Style” and Glamma Kid’s “Mad & Bad” also appear on the riddim. Glamma Kid, a British dancehall artist, had a UK Top 10 hit with “Taboo” in 1999. Together, these artists and songs kept reggae’s rocksteady roots alive in 2013, showing the lasting power of the genre.
