A few cuts do the heavy lifting here, especially Boogie B’s “Grabba and Rum, ” which is exactly the kind of grease-and-rum party chant you’d expect from a 2019 soca jump-up, and Master J’s “Black, ” which keeps the energy pointed and tight instead of just chasing noise. Pressure Point and General Pepper’s “Money Big” adds a different angle, leaning into the money-talk side of the riddim without losing the bounce. Madd Kastle Records keeps the arrangement lean too: six tracks in all, including the instrumental, issued on August 23, 2019 as a short EP-style release. It’s the sort of compact Carnival-season package that doesn’t waste time getting to the chorus.
